Abstract:

The aim of the present research was to compare the efficacy of BECK's COGNITIVE THERAPY and Teasdale's mindfulness-based COGNITIVE THERAPY in reducing depression and modification of meta-COGNITIVE beliefs in dysthymic patients. The sample consisted of 30 subjects randomly selected from patients with dysthymia who consulted 6 clinics in the city of Mashhad. The subjects were randomly assigned to two experimental groups and each group was treated for a three month period using either BECK's COGNITIVE THERAPY or Teasdale's mindfulness-based COGNITIVE THERAPY. The instruments employed in this research were the BECK Depression Inventory, Psychological Interview, and Meta-cognition Questionnaire. Subjects completed the tests through pretest, posttest and follow up intervals. A repeated measure of analysis of variance showed that BECK's COGNITIVE THERAPY and Teasdale's mindfulness-based COGNITIVE THERAPY were effective in reducing depression and modification of meta-COGNITIVE beliefs. However, no significant difference was found between BECK's COGNITIVE THERAPY and Teasdale's mindfulness-based COGNITIVE THERAPY in reducing depression and modification of meta-COGNITIVE beliefs in dysthymic patients.

Background: Depression is characterized by a great risk of relapse and recurrence. Mindfulness-based COGNITIVE THERAPY (MBCT) and COGNITIVE THERAPY are efficacious psychosocial interventions for recurrent depression. Objectives: The aim of the present research was to compare the effect of BECK’ s COGNITIVE THERAPY (BCT) and MBCT on reduction of depression and sociotropic and autonomous personality styles in Iranian depressed patients. Patients and Methods: The study sample consisted of 30 subjects randomly selected from patients with depression in Mashhad city, Iran. The subjects were assigned randomly to experimental groups. The 2 techniques used for treatment were BCT and MBCT. The data collection instruments used in the research consisted of psychological interview, the BECK Depression Inventory II and the revised Personal Style Inventory (RPSI). The research data was analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: BCT and MBCT were effective in reducing depression, but BCT and MBCT did not cause any change in the sociotropic and autonomous personality styles in patients with depression. Conclusions: The results provide support for the role of BCT and MBCT plays in reducing depression. However, the results did not approve their role in changing sociotropic and autonomous personality styles in patients with depression.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Background: Depression is a predictor of COGNITIVE impairment in aged people. This study aimed to compare the effect of Vitamin D, integrated COGNITIVE rehabilitation THERAPY (CRT), transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), and a combination of CRT and tACS on depression in patients with mild COGNITIVE impairment (MCI). Methods: The present study is a semi-experimental clinical trial study in which 32 people with mild COGNITIVE impairment were randomly assigned to four treatment groups after completing the BECK Depression Test and the Mocha Test. CRT, tACS, and CRT + tACS interventions were held twice a week for 12 sessions each. Each session of CRT and tACS lasted 20 minutes, and each session of COGNITIVE rehabilitation treatment plus TACS was performed for 40 minutes, and the group receiving vitamin D; received 20 micrograms equivalent to 800 IU of vitamin D daily for six weeks. Before conducting the research, the BECK depression test (BDI) and MoCA test were taken, and at the end of the research, BDI was taken to check the effectiveness of treatments on reducing depression. To analyze the results, the repeated measurement statistical test with a significance level of less than 0.05 was used. Findings: The results showed that the depression scores decreased significantly in the COGNITIVE rehabilitation intervention group from 11 to 9. However, no significant difference was observed in the transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) and combination of CRT and tACS and vitamin D groups. Conclusion: According to the present study, CRT decreased depression scores in MCI, and it is more effective in reducing depression compared to tACS, CRT+tACS, and vitamin D.

Abstract:

COGNITIVE-THERAPY uses a series of techniques to solve many psychological difficulties and a vast area of psychological disorders. However, the COGNITIVE-THERAPY is not restricted to a series of techniques; rather, it is a theory based on the philosophical foundations consistent with the scientific methods. The pioneers and researchers of COGNITIVE-THERAPY have not explicitly spoken of all the intellectual foundations of COGNITIVE-THERAPY; however, a survey of the discussions of the COGNITIVE-therapists reveals the theological foundations. Accordingly, the present study aims at investigating the theological foundations in COGNITIVE-THERAPY and reviewing these foundations according to the Islamic thought with an emphasis on Ayatollah Mesbah’s views. The present study is of documentary-analytical type. The findings of the study suggest that non-demonstrability of religion, irrationality of theism, relativity of religious propositions, considering religion and piety as the cause for mental disorders, paying attention to spirituality without God, and religious plurality are among theological foundations that pioneers of COGNITIVE-THERAPY have dealt with. COGNITIVE-THERAPY based on such a theology, by answering these questions and mental challenges, shows a treatment inconsistent with Islamic approach in its intellectual and doctrinal framework. Thus, the foundations of such a treatment are inconsistent with Islamic foundations which are the result of a divine paradigm, and do not lead the man to the truth of his own existence.
